Deacons
In Acts 6, shortly after the Church's establishment on the day of Pentecost, the Apostles were faced with the
task of ministering to the physical needs of the new Christians in Jerusalem. To help with this task, the
Apostles appointed seven men, deacons, who were responsible for serving the congregation. Eastern
Meadows, in the pattern of the first-century church, has also appointed deacons to serve the congregation that
meet the qualifications described in 1 Timothy 3.
"Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to
much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. They must hold the mystery of faith with a clear
conscience. And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove
themselves blameless. their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderes, but sober-minded,
faithful in all things. Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their
own households well. for those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also
great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus." - 1 Timothy 3:8-13
These men serve as deacons at the Eastern Meadows church of Christ.
